Greenings Green Warrior! Today I’m sharing a DIY Recipe to help you incorporate maple leaf extract into your skincare routine. It is said that it can provide numerous benefits, from boosting elastin to reducing inflammation and lightening age spots. Its potent blend of phenolic compounds makes it an ideal ingredient for achieving healthier, more youthful skin.

Maple leaves contain phenolic compounds that can boost elastin, which may restore the look of youth to your skin better than many other treatments. When researchers studied red maple leaves, they discovered 106 such compounds, including 11 potentially new compounds and 75 that were previously unknown to exist in red maple leaves. Recent research reveals that maple leaf extracts may be one of the closest things we have on earth to a real fountain of youth!

The Key to Youthful Skin: Elastin

Elastin is a protein in the skin that maintains its flexibility. Over time, the breakdown of elastin leads to wrinkles, sagging, and an overall “old” appearance. Certain glucitol-core-containing “gallotannins” in red maple leaves have been found to inhibit this breakdown of elastin, fight skin inflammation, and lighten age spots. Researchers have described these compounds as having the potential to tighten skin like a plant-based Botox with just topical application, not an injection.

DIY Maple Leaf Extract Skincare Recipe

Harness the power of red maple leaves with this simple DIY skincare recipe.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. Mix Ingredients: In a small bowl, combine the red maple leaf extract, aloe vera gel, coconut oil, and rose water. Mix well until you get a smooth paste.
  2. Store in a clean, amber, glass cosmetic jar.
  3. Apply: Using a clean, cosmetic spoon (so as not to contaminate the mixture) scoop out some mixture onto clean fingers or a brush, apply the mixture evenly to your face and neck, avoiding the eye area.
  4. Leave On: Let the mask sit for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Rinse: Rinse off with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry. Follow up with your favorite moisturizer.

Caution

Before applying the maple leaf mask to your face, it’s important to test a small amount on an inconspicuous area of your skin to ensure you don’t have an allergic reaction. Apply a small amount of the mixture to your inner wrist or behind your ear and wait for 24 hours to check for any adverse reactions.
