‘Tis the season for spreading joy and goodwill, and what better way to do so than by sharing the gift of growth and nourishment? Recently, I had the pleasure of being invited to a vegan holiday party and was tasked with bringing a few inexpensive gifts for a mystery game. Inspired to spread some cheer while promoting sustainability and wellness on a budget, I decided to craft DIY seed sprouting kits—a simple yet thoughtful present that’s sure to delight recipients of all ages.
The beauty of DIY seed sprouting kits lies not only in their simplicity and versatility but also in their affordability. No green thumb? No problem! With these budget-friendly kits, anyone can experience the joy of growing their own nutritious sprouts without breaking the bank. All it takes is adding water and rinsing twice daily—easy peasy! Whether it’s easy to sprout mung beans, crunchy alfalfa, nutritional broccoli, or zesty radish sprouts, these little seeds have the power to transform into vibrant greens bursting with flavor and nutrients.
What You’ll Need:
- Mason jar with a wide mouth (quart-size works well)
- Mesh lid or cheese cloth
- Organic seeds for sprouting (alfalfa, broccoli, radish, mung beans etc.)
- Sprouting instructions to include with your gift. Click below to DOWNLOAD.
Step 2: Add Seeds to the Jar
Carefully measure and pour the seeds provided into the mason jar. The seeds will come with measurement directions.
At this point you can insert your printout of directions. I usually write the type of seed I have placed in the jar along with any special directions for that particular seed.
Place the Mesh lid or cheese cloth over the mouth of the mason jar and secure it with a rubber band or mason jar ring. If you use cheese cloth, you can cut the desired size (single ply) after securing it with rubber band or mason jar ring. This lid will allow air circulation while preventing the seeds from escaping during the sprouting process.
Then you may attach a cute ribbon or gift tag.
The benefits of eating these freshly sprouted seeds are incredible, and each kit took about two minutes to make! I took a video (all in one take!) to show you how fast and easy assembly of these kits can be.

Not only are seed sprouts delicious and versatile, but they’re also packed with a plethora of health benefits. From boosting immunity and aiding digestion to providing a rich source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, sprouts are a true powerhouse of nutrition. By gifting budget-friendly DIY seed sprouting kits, I hoped to inspire my fellow partygoers to embrace the journey of growing their own food and nourishing their bodies from the inside out—all without breaking the bank.
